On Saturday, September 10, 2011, The Parks at Durham Lakes Home Owners Association (HOA) will host its first annual Vendor Expo. Located in the heart of Fairburn, our community is the perfect venue to host the Expo. The time for the Vendor Expo is 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their prize products and/or services (i.e., apparel/shoes, jewelry/accessories, art, beauty, services, etc.) to a community and surrounding neighbors in the Fairburn area. In addition, participants will have the ability to establish loyal customers. The Vendor Expo will be held outdoors. Vendors will be responsible for all set-up items (tables, extension cords, tents, etc). The Parks at Durham Lakes HOA will provide the power source and signage.

We are inviting you to be an integral part of the first Vendor Expo and make your mark in our community and the City of Fairburn.

Art and music were once the voice of the people. It was an underground movement driven by the need for expression. Somewhere along the way, art became available only to the elite and music profited only the few. At that point the artist lost control of their creation.

Art, Beats + Lyrics is taking it back.

HISTORY OF THE TOUR:
Art, Beats + Lyrics was established in 2004 when founder Jabari Graham faced being laid off from his job. Jabari figured he could look for new employment or create it himself. He had long toyed with the idea of creating a showcase for unrecognized urban artists. Jabari decided to follow his dream, investing his savings and severance package to fund an urban art showcase in Atlantas eclectic Little Five Points District. The exhibition was well received. The venue held 250 people, but over 400 attended. With that initial success, Jabari teamed with Dwayne (Dubelyoo) Wright. Dubelyoo had been creating his own art shows and brought experience, connections with artists and the inside perspective, being an artist himself, to the showcase. Together they repackaged the event and Art, Beats + Lyrics was born. Positive reviews from their first show made their second show at Atlantas High Museum of Art an unparalleled success in both AB+L and High Museum history. The museum was filled to capacity within three hours of the shows opening. With the success of that and several other shows the next step was to take the show on the road. The concept for the show was pitched to Jack Daniels and the partnership to produce one of the largest traveling urban art exhibition was born.

Beginning July 7 with the opening of Trenton Doyle Hancock’s exhibition at the SCAD Gallery at the Woodruff Arts Center there is literally something for everyone at the 2011 National Black Arts Festival!

In addition to visual arts exhibitions, workshops, symposiums, the Coretta Scott King Awards Book Fair, and The Summer Institute, festival patrons will enjoy the highly-anticipated Legends Celebration featuring The O’Jays in concert. This year the celebration adds a new tribute to cultural icons we have lost during the last year to what has become one of the summer’s hottest tickets.

Other highlights you won’t want to miss include our annual gala fundraiser a Salute to the Silver Screen; the first ever DanceAfrica Atlanta!, curated by the critically acclaimed choreographer and griot Chuck Davis; and premiere film screenings. The 40th Annual Inman Park Spring Festival and Tour of Homes will take place on April 30 and May 1, 2011, with a Home Tour preview on Friday, April 29. The 2010 Atlanta Arts Festival: September 18th and 19th in Piedmont Park.

The Atlanta Arts Festival is a multi-day, outdoor festival with an emphasis on the visual arts. Set in historic Piedmont Park, this festival fills the fall time art festival void in the City of Atlanta. Bringing together outstanding artists from all over the country with the large and enthusiastic art buying community of the Atlanta area, the Festival will feature 200 of the country's finest painters, photographers, sculptors, leather and metal craftsmen, glass blowers and more! Every year Hosea Feed the Hungry & the Homeless (HFTH) identifies children in desperate need and provides them with the means to have a healthy and successful school year at the Back to School Jamboree.

HOW can you help? This year, due to the tough economy, HFTH needs the community's assistance more than ever as we are 1,000 backpacks short. On Friday, May 7, 2010 the Lucille & Willie Murphy Foundation (LWMF) of Atlanta will host their Annual LWMF Golf Tournament at the Sugar Creek Golf Course in Atlanta, GA. The LWMF provides supplies and services for youth affected by HIV/AIDS and neglected and abused children in our underserved communities.

All proceeds from the golf tournament will be used to purchase clothing, school supplies, and toiletry supplies for youth that are affected with HIV/AIDS as well as protecting neglected and abused children. Registration Deadline is Friday April 16, 2010
